90% sure

Good day my lovelies, if it is a good day, which frankly I'm absolutely certain of since I'm not temping and am wearing flip-flops.

And yes that is my usual measure of what's, as they say, hot and what's, oh-Lord-why-did-I-bother, not.

So. Brighton. Was lovely! Hoorah! Hub liked it a lot, although he did keep saying "We have to remember that this is a nice sunny day and we have money. What would it be like in the rain with three pounds."

In response I skipped and gadded and cried "Look at the sea!"

So we are thinking that at the end of July we will pack all the accumulated nonsense into containing items and fly from the city of London, with the weird cat mewing behind us. We will be like Dick Whittington in reverse.

I do, of course, have to find a job. Does anyone know about jobs in Brighton?

What else...?

I am reading scripts. They are not very good (I was going to say rubbish, and then stopped myself, but now I have told you anyway. Today I have the typing equivalent of verbal diarrhoea. Which is trickier to spell than you think it is going to be).

Maybe I will direct radio plays!

(Must find out about radio plays).

*skips off to sit outside*

("Phew," say readers. "That was a bit much.")

The price of living.

I had a thing to say, but I have forgotten it.

Tra la la la laa.

Oh yes!

I am moving house. It seems. To not-in-London.

I know.

This is because the landlord has put our rent up. It hasn't been put up for two years so it is sort of understandable.

Sort of.

So London has finally priced me and hub out. *sigh*

We think we might move to Brighton. In Brighton there is the sea. And an ethical furniture-making company for hub to work at. And there are some theatres, and people being bohemian for me.

We are going to visit this weekend to see if we like it.

It is exciting!

But a bit scary.

PS. I still need to find a job. I do not really know what I could do, to those of you who asked. Hub had an idea that I could go into big businesses and do clever theatre-like workshops for making people build their teams and think without boxes and some such. I started investigating, but it seems there are hundreds of companies who do this! I would not know where to start! No other ideas have yet occured. I will let you know if they do. You lucky things.

Being little.

On the bus this morning there was a little girl and her mum, who was reading to her. The bus lurched forward, and the mum hit her head on a pole.

"Ouch," she said.

"Sore?" said the little girl.

"I banged my head," said her mum.

"Ouch," said the little girl.

Pause.

"Kiss it better?" said the little girl.

"I'll be alright," said her mum.

Then I noticed what she was reading. This book was my absolute favourite when I was little. The most extraordinary lump formed in my throat. It was all I could do not to leap into the seat next to them and listen along.

"Moving Molly". The book that inspired me, age three, to write my name on the wall of our home just before we moved, then blame it on my eight-month old sister. It's a classic. Read it now.

Things that have happened

Marriage went a bit wobbly. Is continuing in a wobbly sort of a way.

I stuffed 2000 envelopes.

I did not get a job. Another one. I am sad and depressed and frustrated. I want to know how I can get money. This would involve a job which allows me to wander off every now and then to do the theatre stuff, then wander back to earn the money stuff. (Ideas solicited and received with joyous abandon.)

Had IPL. Yes. Google that.

My sister was bitten by a seal and went into hospital to have operations on her hand to save its finger-y goodness. She works with seals. Which is why this isn't as strange as it otherwise could be.

The weird cat ate peas.

I checked my other sister's dissertation for grammatical errors. All 12,000 words of it.

I wrote a funding application and hated every single second and there is no way on earth or indeed in heaven that we will get it because the Arts Council are shit and so am I. (At applications.)

I didn't get another job.

Hub had all his hair cut off.

I am a misery guts. Grr.

A post!

Yes! It is I! Miss Tickle of Miss Tickle blog stuff!

Exciting I know.

So. Hello. An annoying thing happened with a Turkish lady but I don't really know if I should tell you.

Oh alright then, but I warn you, it might not be interesting.

I got an exciting phone call from a woman who is in theatre and can get me jobs! She said there is a Turkish lady who wants to do a Turkish play about Turkish ladies and she has a small budget and I told her you were good.

(I blushed.)

So I went to meet the Turkish lady and she did want to do a Turkish play about Turkish ladies but -

She wanted me to give her a quote for it.

I do not mean a literary quote in the vein of Oscar Wilde.

I mean a monetary quote in the vein of a plumber.

I am not a plumber! (I do not wish to offend plumbers. It is simply that I am not one. Sorry. Plumbers are nice.)

So I fumbled and blustered and came out with a quite arbitrary amount of money even though she refused to give me any sort of guidelines whatsoever (I imagine when you are a plumber people say things like "Well I would like a bath, and I would like it to be blue with taps" and so forth.)

And then she said thank you and I left.

Then she phoned me and told me it was too expensive and I did not get the job.

It was a strange experience all in all.

Now I am temping. It is boring. There are no Turkish ladies at all.

Slightly dazed.

Hello everybody.

Sorry I have been gone for such a long time.

Theatre has stolen me!

It is good because I am working. I like it.

But I will only be working for another week, then it's back to temping.

*sigh*

And I'm sad to tell you I didn't get the Billy Elliot job. They employed someone who had more experience with children. To be honest, I don't really mind. It has a positive side too, like I won't be tied to one thing for a year and a half. I'll be able to keep doing my own work. And I won't have to watch the same show about 3000 times.

So I'm okay about it.

Today I am hungover. It is rubbish. I do not recommend it.

But fishfinger sandwiches help.

Yum.
